5 Months - Ready, Set...

But not quite "Go!"  Month 5 has been a very fun month for Mom, Dad & LC, but the little one has been getting pretty frustrated as of late.  She's getting to the point where she can almost do the things she wants to do--sit up on her own, crawl--but doesn't quite have the strength to finish.  Her new thing is getting up on her hands and knees, rocking back-and-forth furiously trying to get the courage to start crawling forward.  She's made it backwards a couple of times, but her forward attempts have thus far resulted in mostly face-plants.  Now that she's learned she can almost do these new things, she gets unhappy pretty quickly when she's not trying.  Laying on her back, laying on her stomach, being held...she wants none of it.  It's even begun to interrupt nap time, which is apparently normal.  All she wants is to get on the floor and get back to trying to crawl; it's really cute to watch her determination.  I'm sure it won't be long before she's moving right along.

I'm really excited to get moving....
...wait, what do I do next?
LC continues to grow, both physically and developmentally, and is coming into her own as a little person.  Her personality is really starting to show, and it seems to be a good mix between Mom's happy & fun personality, and Dad's somewhat suspicious, somewhat indifferent personality.
Nervously excited about her walk in the cold
Not enthusiastic about this walk at all
Over the past few weeks, we've slowly started introducing more "solid" foods into LC's diet.  We start with oatmeal cereal and then moved her up to peas.  Peas were a big hit the first few days, but have slowly fallen out of favor.  Carrots were an absolute failure; I don't think Jessica and I realized LC could actually spit-out food and make the "what the hell was that" face at this age.  We'll keep trying with the carrots, but we've got sweet potatoes next on the menu; everyone says kids love those, but we'll see what LC thinks.

Feeding has been a fun activity for the both of us; LC looks like such a grown up sitting in her high chair, slapping her hands on the table demanding more food.  It's certainly a messy process; no matter how clean we try to be, she always manages to find a way to get peas everywhere.  Luckily, bath time comes right after, so have to do a thorough check in the tub to make sure we got all the peas off of her head/face/hands/stomach/feet.

More?!?!?  Yes peas.
Eat ALL the peas
Naturally, we had another onesie competition this month.  I think Mom was a little uninspired for Month 5 and submitted an entry only because she had to. Both LC and I are expecting a big comeback for month 6.

Good lookin' out Dad
Really Mom?  Really?

LC's other big adventure this past month was heading to Chapel Hill, NC to celebrate UNC's homecoming with Jess and her crew.  After doing so well flying to NYC, LC was wonderful in the car both driving up and coming home; she had about a 30-minute freak-out each way, which wasn't bad at all.  We had some cool weather in North Carolina, but LC didn't seem to mind being bundled up.  Jessica and I spent our first night away from our baby while we were in Chapel Hill; LC did wonderfully with Grandma and Grandpa...I think Jess and I had a much more worrisome time.

It's been an amazing 5 months so far, and things are only getting more exciting and LC comes into her own as a little "person."  We're headed to the doctor in a few weeks for her 6-month check-up, so we'll get to see how she's grown.  I feel like LC is right on the cusp of some new and exciting things (teeth, sitting up, crawling) so the next few weeks should be a lot of fun.

A few more pictures from the last month...
